FINANCE MANAGER (full-time)

Orchard Valley Waldorf School is seeking a Finance Manager. 

Orchard Valley is in the process of diversifying to expand our revenue base and more fully live into the potential of our organization as a resource and hub for the greater community. This expansion will lead to a restructuring towards an Association type organization. 

The Orchard Valley Association Finance Director will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of the Organization and its respective Initiatives and Enterprises, which currently include Orchard Valley Waldorf School PreK-Grade 8, Sweet Clover Nursery birth-3 Program, Grace Farm Summer Camp, and the Developing Initiatives which include Grace Farm, Grace Farm Housing, Child’s Garden campus and a yet to be determined enterprise.

Key responsibilities:

    • Support the creation and implementation of strategic plans to grow and sustain the Association

    • Bookkeeping and accounting

    • Payroll

    • Prepare State and Federal DOL, Tax and Payroll reports

    • Prepare annual W2s, W3, 1099s and 1096

    • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for the Association as well as each Initiative/Enterprise 

    • HR support in relation to Employee Benefits and new hire orientation 

    • Work with the leadership of each Initiative/Enterprise to create individual annual budgets 

    • Support work of the Development Director and the Executive Director to identify funding priorities 

    • Submit monthly reports to the Board of Trustees

    • Provide information as needed by leadership

    • Support multiple diverse Initiatives in a cohesive, cost and resource sharing network

    • Ensure compliance with all financial legal requirements

OVWS is a small, rural school set on a beautiful 55-acre campus in the heart of Vermont. We are a Waldorf school currently providing curriculum from infancy, at our year-round Sweet Clover Nursery child care, through Grade 7, sometimes working in combined classes and intending to continue through Grade 8. Specialty classes include Handwork, Woodworking, Music, Movement, Spanish (Grades 3-7) and Russian (Grade 1 and 2) and On the Land, an outdoor education program. Our campus sits on one of the upper branches of the Winooski river. Our students help care for goats and sheep as part of our impulse to deepen our connection to the natural world around us.  

Our teachers and administration are expected to be working with the children and land stewardship at the center with an explicit commitment to engaging in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work both in themselves and as a faculty/staff body. 

Our school is located 8 miles from Montpelier, Vermont’s capital. It's a small town with big city amenities - a lively arts and music scene, great restaurants, and an active community life.  

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor Degree or Higher in business, management or related field

  • Experience and interest in Waldorf and Anthroposophical organizations

  • Proven track record in launching new non-profit organizations

  • Proven ability to guide a non-profit from the start up phase to a place of sustainability

  • 10+ years of nonprofit management experience

  • Proficient in Quickbooks and Google Applications

  • Ability to learn new applications

  • Critical thinking and problem solving

  • Proven ability to develop and implement short and long term strategic planning to grow and sustain a non-profit organization

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking for the Association

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to promote cooperation between multiple and diverse stakeholders

  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills

  • Leadership and supervisory skills

  • The ideal candidate would be interested in or have a background with Associative Economics, working in an independent school and/or small-scale agriculture. 

This is a full time salaried position. Benefits include health insurance, 2 weeks vacation and tuition remission. Salary range is $58,000-$65,000 dependent on education and experience
